About Hunter Lot

Hunter Lot is a parking structure located on Mt. Pleasant Avenue across from the Village police station and courthouse. The Lot provides spaces for Residential and Non-Residential permits, as well as spots for public parking. The Lot’s central location is nearby the Library, Emelin Theater and Mamaroneck Avenue’s shops, restaurants and cinema, making it an important source of parking for many residents as the Village has become increasingly congested.

The Lot is in a state of disrepair, and requires updating. Many residents had hoped the lot would be repaired and upgraded to accommodate additional public parking, as the center of the Village has become increasingly congested. Instead, in March 2023, former Mayor Tom Murphy proposed  to convert the lot into "40 and 50 residential apartments for families making as little as $30 thousand a year.” To accommodate this, a controversial zoning change was pushed through, and a vague RFP (request for proposal) was put out for bid.

Unlike the Mamaroneck Public Library expansion and renovation project , which involved multiple meetings for community input and a detailed RFP, resulting in 14 bids, the vague and rushed Hunter RFP garnered only TWO proposals. Both are for significantly more units than originally described, and one developer would include land all the way back to Palmer Avenue, even though the former mayor had promised residents Palmer would go untouched.
